24″ X 18″, Libra Mustang, Collage & Acrylic on Wood.
For newcomers to this story, this is the 10th in a series of 12 mixed media, paintings of Mustangs that I am doing to raise money for a non-profit which supports Wild Mustangs which are rescued from the Bureau of Land Management. The backstory and the description of this project can be found at the bottom of the page. These are the Libra Mustangs. They are “neck scratching” which is something horses do when they feel safe and like each other. See video:

I started this project out with a local Colorado non-profit in mind as the recipient of the money we would raise. I had been working with this place for 3 years doing Energy Healing on the horses, when I found out, in June, that the Director of the non-profit had murdered 5 of the horses I had been working on citing that they “were not able to thrive in domestic life.” She could have asked all of us for help – we could have taken those horses to our properties, but instead, she chose to “euthanize” them.
I found this out from a friend of mine who also works for the non-profit in a volunteer manner. Instead of listening to my friend, because I did not want to listen to hearsay, I emailed the Director and asked her about it. She confirmed that she had indeed killed the horses, but told me that I was “listening to gossip.” She wanted to talk to me about it on the phone. I did not want to talk to her about it – I had heard all I needed to hear.
Really, the truth was, that the Director had a drama-rama life and she was constantly moving – she moved in with her boyfriend down to Northern NM but then they broke up, so she moved – all the horses (15) and her cows, chickens, goats and sheep and her young daughter, back to southern Colorado for about 8 months. Then that land-owner decided to sell his land and she moved all those creatures, back to Northern NM. She stayed there for about 6 months and she couldn’t make it work, *again*, and she had to move – somewhere west of closer to Taos, NM, and obviously she just went off the deep end and killed 5 horses.
This is not in alignment with my values, and frankly, I feel that she should have worked out her crazy before she took a bunch of traumatized horses through her gauntlet of twisted perception.
So…I have been looking for another non-profit to donate these paintings to…
There is one in Craig, CO – that has 30,000 acres. It is well-established. There is one in Fairplay, CO that 6000 acres. And a new one came into my view, in Calhan, CO. I need to meet with these people and see how I feel about them.
I did meet with one that close to where I live and the co-founder told me something that disqualified them as a possibility. Once again, I want to find people who are sane and well-balanced individuals – who have worked out their “issues” so that they can truly put their best efforts into helping the horses and not be running off with the non-profit’s money because they are schizo.
It’s just amazing how many people run non-profits who are **KUKU for CoCoa Puffs**- but I am sure the world these days makes a lot of people go off the deep end. It’s hard to feel safe to deal with difficult issues when “society” seems to be collapsing around you, I guess.
I am blessed that God (in a non-denominational sense) is the pillar I lean on through everything.
Anyway, this is the story, as it stands now. I am going to finish the series and then I am going to make a decision about who these paintings go to.
